What coaching covers

The everyday skills that make independence work.

The practical stuff. The skills that quietly decide whether the rest of the plan holds together.

Email and messages

An inbox you're not afraid to open, and replies that actually go out.

Budgeting

A simple budget you'll actually look at.

Calendar and time

Knowing what's happening this week, and getting there on time.

Finding and keeping work

Applications, routines, and the habits that help a job stick.

Meals and groceries

Planning what to eat before it's 8 p.m. and the fridge is empty.

Laundry and your space

Resets small enough to keep doing, so things don't pile up.

Communication

Speaking up with your team, your family, and the people you work with.

Your social life

Making plans, keeping them, and seeing people you like.

And whatever else is in the way

You bring the goal. We build the system around it.

Why UpSkill Specialists

Coaching built for real weeks, not perfect ones.

What is executive function coaching? A practical, goal-directed partnership that builds the skills behind planning, organizing, managing time, and following through. You and your coach pick a goal from your life, design a routine that fits your brain and your week, and practice it until it runs on its own.

Experience

Coaches with special education backgrounds

Our team comes from executive function coaching and special education. Whatever you're facing, we've very likely helped someone through it before.

Focus

The skills that usually get skipped

We coach the everyday skills most programs assume you already have, and give you specific, reusable tools for them.

Pace

Progress without willpower

Clear weekly actions, planned around your energy, sensory needs, and capacity, so progress doesn't depend on having a good day.

Team

We work alongside your support team

We coordinate with your Independent Facilitator, family, and other providers, so everyone is pulling in the same direction.

SDP success stories

What this looks like in real life.

Two stories from the people who saw it up close: an Independent Facilitator and a parent.

Karen Hammond · Independent Facilitator

A foundation for lasting independence

Karen's SDP clients had a strong network of professionals around them. What they were missing were the executive function skills to use it: getting to appointments on time, preparing for the day, managing money, and planning ahead.

The outcome

Karen keeps referring clients because coaching became the foundation the rest of their support is built on.

Ellen Sloan · Parent

From living at home to her own apartment

Ellen's daughter had an excellent SDP team, but needed help keeping communication flowing, getting to meetings, and finishing tasks across every area of support.

The outcome

In less than two years, she moved from living at home to living independently in her own apartment.

The challenge, what we built, and how it turned out

In their own words

From IFs, parents, and families.

“My neurodivergent clients love learning new skills with Eric! His background and training give me confidence that he has the skills my clients need to be an effective Executive Function Coach. Upskills have been collaborative and their communication is great. They go above and beyond to work as part of the client team.”

Karen HammondIndependent Facilitator

“We've been working with Eric for over 3 years and have been consistently impressed with his ability to ‘get’ our needs. From executive function skills to breaking through procrastination, Eric has empowered our son.”

SarahParent

“She seems to be able to hone right in on what he needs to work on each week. She is patient and truly ‘gets’ my son. After each session, she immediately writes up the session notes in a very organized way so that I know what they have worked on and I can then reinforce those things.”

Honest fit check

This works well for some adults and poorly for others.

We'd rather you self-select out now than three sessions in. Read both columns.

A strong fit if you're

  • Neurodivergent (autistic, ADHD, anxiety, or something else) and want practical help with executive function
  • Living in a group home or shared setting and want more independence and a better day-to-day
  • A young adult moving from school or another structured setting toward living on your own
  • Dealing with burnout cycles, sensory overload, or energy that changes day to day
  • Looking for systems that fit you, not ones that only work if you mask and force it
  • Wanting accountability that still respects your choices

Not a fit if you're

  • Looking for a one-size-fits-all program. Everything we do is personalized.
  • Not ready to try new approaches. Coaching means testing new routines and tools.
  • Expecting big changes overnight. We build gradual progress that lasts.
  • Looking for diagnosis, therapy, or crisis support. That needs a licensed provider, and we'll say so.
  • Coaching is skills- and action-focused. Plenty of our clients keep a therapist alongside it.

Meet the co-founder

A calmer, more organized week is within reach.

I'm Eric, co-founder of UpSkill Specialists and an executive function coach. I work with neurodivergent adults who are tired of feeling overwhelmed by things everyone else seems to handle without thinking.

Our coaching combines mindset work with practical organizing systems. Whether you're just stepping into adulthood or got a diagnosis later in life, the goal is the same: a week that feels calmer, more organized, and more like yours.

We've helped dozens of clients build that. I'd love to help you do it too.

Getting started

Three steps, and the first one costs nothing.

Book a free consultation

Tell us what's actually going on, then pick a time to talk. If coaching isn't the right tool for what you're facing, we'll say so and point you somewhere better.

Sort out funding with your team

Executive function coaching can often be written into your spending plan. If we're not yet vendored with your FMS, we'll work with you and your IF to get it done.

Meet your coach and start

We match you with a coach based on your goals and how you communicate, then you start weekly sessions with text check-ins in between.

Before you book

Questions SDP participants and families ask us most.

How does executive function coaching help an adult in SDP?

Executive function covers the skills behind planning, organizing, managing time, and following through. Coaching builds those skills around your own goals.

You and your coach figure out your strengths and where things get stuck, then build a plan with strategies and tools that fit your life. Week by week, you put them into practice with your own tasks, schedule, and decisions, which is where independent living skills actually grow.

Can coaching be paid for through my Self-Determination budget?

Often, yes. If you're a regional center client using the Self-Determination Program, executive function coaching can often be written into your spending plan. We work regularly with independent facilitators and FMS providers, and we're glad to talk your team through how it's typically structured.

Which Financial Management Services (FMS) do you work with?

We work with a range of FMS providers across California. If we're not vendored with yours yet, we'll work with you and your Independent Facilitator to get that done quickly.

Is executive function coaching covered by insurance?

Rarely. Coaching isn't a clinical service, so health insurance usually doesn't cover it. For SDP participants, the spending plan is the usual route.

Is coaching online or in person?

Online. Sessions happen by video, with text check-ins between them, so you can work with us from anywhere in California.

What happens on the free consultation?

We talk through your goal, what you've already tried, and how coaching would work for your week. If it's a fit, we'll walk you and your team through next steps, including funding. If it isn't, we'll say so and point you somewhere better.

One next step

Book a free consultation. Start building a week that works for you.

Tell us what's getting in the way. If it's a fit, we'll match you with a coach and help your team get it into your spending plan. If it isn't, we'll say so and point you somewhere better.
